Getting that all important letter inviting you to attend an interview for the ideal job in Chester is only the first step to your success. What should you do to prepare? What steps should you consider when planning for your interview? How can you make sure that the impression you create brings you even closer to your perfect Chester job?
Relax, but not too much, and read the first of our tips below to help you prepare for your Chester Job Interview:
Consider where you will park if you are going by car. If you are using public transport can you arrive before the time requested?
Most interviewers will be happy to alter an interview time when you ring to confirm that you will be going to the interview. It is far better to do this than to set out on an impossible task of reaching your Chester job interview if you already know it is unlikely you will get there on time.
2) Do you know what form the interview will take? Read the invitation carefully. It may be a one page letter with a date and time; or crucial details regarding the interview procedure may be within.
When telephoning to reaffirm that you will be going to the meeting if the letter did not give these necessary details ask careful questions during the call.
For instance: How long will the interview be? What will be involved during the interview? Asking these two simple questions will leave you much better prepared for your Chester job interview.
Knowing how long the interview will be gives an indication of whether it will be a short but intense 'grilling' session or a whole day possibly involving testing, work sessions and lunch with other potential candidates.
Finding out the interview day layout will leave you knowing if you are likely to be tested in any way, who will be asking the questions and if you need to do any special preparation or provide further information.
Think of how much you will raise your advantage above any other candidates who did not ask these questions.
With this information in hand be prepared. You cannot do enough preparation for your Chester job interview.
3) Think about your appearance and how it relates to the job you have applied for. It is advisable for most job interviews to wear a suit. Do you have one? Does it fit? Is it presentable and immediately wearable?
A suit may not be the required attire for every job in Chester. If you are thinking that this may be so for your meeting be absolutely sure and carefully consider what you should wear and whether it is right.
4) Prepare as many answers to as many questions as possible Interview questions take many different forms nowadays. There are standard 'old-school' questions such as 'why should we choose you for this position?', 'what do you think you can bring to the company?', 'where do you see yourself in five years time?' , 'what are your strengths/weaknesses?'.
Many companies now use 'competency-based' questions. Without preparation even the most revered employee within a business can fail to reach the next stage of their career by failing to fulfil the requirements at a promotion interview.
Mastering the competency-based interview to get the Chester job you aspire to take practise, time and consideration.
We will cover this subject in more detail in a separate article.
5) Interview the interviewer. The interview, if they are skilled, will in fact answer many questions you will have and it is fine to let them know they have achieved this it is important to make sure they have.
An ideal question to keep to one side is to ask your interviewer how they feel about their Chester job.
These are just the first steps towards preparing to succeed during your job interview and clinching your perfect Chester job.
